Stiffness can be due to a swollen wooden handle or dirt. Try soaking the knife in warm water for a few minutes to expand the wood slightly, then open and close it repeatedly. If the blade is hard to open, lubricate the pivot with a small drop of mineral oil.
A swollen handle (from moisture) or a loose Virobloc ring can prevent opening. Dry the knife thoroughly, tap the ring gently to align it, and ensure the locking ring is turned to the open position.
The Virobloc ring can be adjusted by gently turning it. If it's too tight, use a pair of pliers (with cloth protection) to rotate it slightly. If it's too loose, use a hammer to gently tap the edge of the ring to tighten it.

This knife is a quintessential Opinel. The beechwood handle feels great, and the blade is sharp. The sheath is a nice addition. It's lightweight and easy to carry. I've used it for many outdoor tasks and it hasn't let me down.
The knife itself is excellent – sharp and solid. The wooden handle is comfortable. My only complaint is the synthetic leather sheath feels a bit cheap. But for the price, it's fine. Recommended for EDC.
I've been a fan of Opinel knives for years, and this No. 08 is another winner. The 3.35-inch blade is ideal for everyday tasks. The beechwood handle develops a nice patina over time. The locking ring secures the blade safely. The included sheath protects it in my pocket. This knife is a blend of tradition and quality. I'm delighted with this purchase.
The knife is well-made and sharp. The wooden handle is classic. However, the blade is a bit stiff to open at first; you have to break it in. The safety lock is a nice feature, though. Once it loosens up, it's a pleasure to use.
I've carried this knife every day for two months. It's light, sharp, and never fails. The blade holds an edge well. The sheath protects the blade and prevents its opening in my pocket. I use it to open packages, cut food, and even whittle. It's a practical and beautiful tool. I highly recommend it.
It's a fine knife, but it feels too light and delicate for heavy use. The blade is thin and flexes a bit. For light tasks, it's fine. I prefer heavier knives.
For $13.47, this is a bargain. The knife is functional and attractive. The sheath is a bonus. The only issue is that the wood handle might be a bit slippery when wet. But overall, I'm pleased.
This knife is a piece of art. The beechwood handle is smooth and comfortable, and the blade is razor sharp. The locking mechanism is smooth. The sheath is practical. It's a great size for everyday carry. I love the traditional design. It's a joy to use.
I received my knife with a small chip on the blade near the tip. It cuts, but it's not perfect. The handle is nice, but I'm disappointed. Maybe I got a bad one.
